Parineeta – A breath of fresh air

[ I’d recommend this movie , so I’m not gonna be giving out the story in this post ]

Having already watched a disastrous Paheli earlier this week, which I’ve spoken in great lengths of in my previous post, I felt that watching yet another Bollywood movie wouldn’t hurt that much… :P .

In hindsight, however, I’m real glad we finally bought the tickets to a late night screening of the movie yesterday, and I must say, to people like me, with such less faith in the movies that proliferate from Bollywood, Parineeta was like a breath of fresh air.

The feel of the movie was excellent. The expressions were right, the emotions ran deep, the yellowish lighting was old and very classy , the 60’s setting was perfect, down to the clothes of the actors, to the style of the music , with even a pinch of Elvis in between … Hats off to the producers for keeping every detail consistent with the setting.

I’ve come to respect Saif Ali Khan over the last few years, with Dil chahtha hai, Kal ho na ho, and yesterday’s Parineeta. The actress fit the role perfectly too. One thing I noticed as a musician, was with what accuracy Saif plays the piano and the guitar. In most movies, when an actor takes a guitar and acts like he’s playing it, it looks so horrible to me that it makes me wanna stick my finger down my throat and puke. But Saif was brilliant. He either is a musician, or has had real good training on how to fake it on camera.

The story, though, was quite ordinary, and had the normal twists and turns that every love story usually has. In spite of this, I’d sure recommend this movie, if not for the story, for the appreciation of how well it was done, and to get a good feel of the 60’s.

I don’t think I’ll be able to watch hindi movies for quite some time now, but I’m glad that at least a part of me is looking forward to watching the next movie, in the hope that its one of the rare classy movies made, like this one . :)

  3. It is actually funny that u noticed Saif actually seems to play the guitar. Ive noticed in an earlier movie of his (can’t remember which one now, RHTDM mebbe), where he is singing and playing the guitar. I could have sworn that the chap was actually playing chords and the random lick here and there!

Well I didn’t think that he was faking it and guess he can really play :D

  4. yeah man … barred chords were definitely happening on that boat in Parineeta !

one of my friends said she knows for a fact that he does play .. probly read it in an interview or somethin ….

not bad … i see hindi cinema finally moving away from the stereotypical hero playing with an un-connected electric guitar ! :)
