Realm Of Randomness

Inevitably Incognito

Filed under: General — Randomizer @ 3:29 am

I have finally completed porting my posts to wordpress. This move under the new guise of ‘The Randomizer’ was essential for many reasons, the most important being freedom of expression.

Apart from the wealth of information that is free to obtain about one’s self on networking sites like facebook/myspace/orkut , I wasn’t ready to divulge any more about my thoughts and opinions, especially in the light of my upcoming entry into the corporate world. Eyw’s recent experience with the FBI has somewhat shattered my illusions of privacy and I think we all must take care to protect it.

Though most of you know who I am in real life, I’d appreciate the use of my handle ‘Randomizer’ on discussions on this forum. Even if you forget, I will take the liberty to edit your comment to change it appropriately. Many of you have commented previously on the dozens of articles I’ve written… I have painstakingly removed all references to my name, and hopefully most of the dirty work is done !

I have made this site un-indexable by search-engines, so I’m already feeling quite secure here :) . Keep visiting … my motivation to blog is directly proportional to the visits/comments . So keep me motivated, as I’d like to keep posting away.

Cheers, and lets revel on this new, hopefully much more secure, domain.

  1. Hmmm… I do understand your need the anonymity… but, well, call me a search-engine-lover :P but I don’t see why you should prevent the indexing of these pages… Wouldn’t it be supercool if some random person out there was looking for the information/opinions you wrote about and found the blog useful..? (Isn’t that the whole philosophy of the Internet?) Also, in your own words, the more the visitors the more your motivation to blog. So what am I missing?

  2. Eyw –

Like it or not, readers who come to this site by a google search almost Never leave comments. I can’t think of anyone who did so in the previous site. So actually I’m not really missing all that much.

However, you do have a point. Once I get rid of all the remains of my other site, and the old site stops coming up in the ‘cached pages’ of the search for my name as well ( you’ll have to tell me how long those guys keep it … i frankly find it very frustrating that stuff you delete is still in the darn cache), I will make this site indexable.

  3. I guess google does a gret job to help it’s users, the people spyin on ya :P
    Ok, you’ll find these useful:

Prevent search engines from indexing your blogger page:

Prevent Google from caching your page:

(I’m guessing these would take about a month to get reflected)

  5. Hey Golu..

Ah that’s a shame man. You were one of the few bloggers left from when we all started 2 years ago… everyone’s just left, one by one :( .

Hope you change ur mind some time soon ! tc

  6. I dont want to discourage you, but the only fool proof way to not be found …is to not post anything !! I know, I know you can minimize as much as you can and that is what you are trying to do, but the fact of the matter is that its a futile war.

I too ponder over my blogging future as I hope to start work one day in not so far future.

    sigh @golu’s comment.

(you may still improve on your current effort by making it open only for registered users, but that will hurt in other ways too)

  7. @Sharath –

It’s not that futile, Sharath… and the war is worth fighting, imo. Anyone who knows your name getting wide open access to your thoughts on politics, religion, discrimination, and so on in less than 10 secs is a dangerous thing – so going under the guise of a handle will make it extremely hard for the common man armed with merely a search engine to find you. That itself is worth it to me. Make it un-indexable, and then its impossible to be found.

Of course, right now this will limit my scope to market the site. But in the long run, say 1-2 years, I’m hoping to establish a significant enough presence under this handle. Let’s see how things go.

Ultimately, there are only two ways to go – extreme self censorship , or going under a guise. The former just wasn’t appealing enough to me.
